Oops, missed a day. Sorry. I wish I had a good reason or excuse, like too much going on, too busy out living my best life, something. But no, I just forgot. Actually, I’ve forgotten nearly every day until at least 7 or 8 pm, then had to run into my office to knock something out. Yesterday the brain failed me.
Today I’m struggling with a problem. How do I use a $25 VISA gift card online without either going over $25 or leaving the card with $0.47 or some other useless amount on it? I’ve added things to carts in three different online stores, and they all end up going just over or falling just under once tax and shipping are added. There’s no way to add a second payment option to account for an overage, and I know if I leave a small, random amount on the card I’ll forget about it and never use it.
In other news no one cares about, today is my third day wearing my new Invisalign trays. I wore braces for 4 years in my adolescence, including headgear and lip bumpers and the whole shebang. Three decades later, my teeth have shifted enough, especially on the bottom, that I just can’t stand it anymore. It doesn’t look terrible; it’s not a vanity thing (well, not entirely). But the two bottom front teeth are tipping forward, and I am constantly chomping through my bottom lip when I eat. CONSTANTLY. And then the lip swells and bleeds and I chomp on it a dozen more times because I can’t avoid it. So after years of waiting and hoping (and thanks to finally getting some orthodontic coverage), I’m realigning them.
So far it’s not too bad. My teeth ache a bit, but that’s better than the pain I still remember from having the wires tightened on my traditional braces. The biggest annoyance is that I can’t eat and I’m not supposed to drink anything but water when they’re in. The water isn’t too big a deal; I mostly drink water all day anyway. Except for my one large Diet Coke that I allow myself. Yes, I know all the “risks” of DC. But it’s my caffeine, and it’s got fewer calories than that caramel double latte you have every morning, Karen. However, the risk that the soda will get trapped in my tray and rot my teeth is a strong consideration. Plus the risk that the trays will get stained by the coloring. So I’ve had to find a hack for it
Did you know there’s an Invisalign Reddit? I didn’t, but I do now. And they solved my problem. I drink a sip of soda, then I drink a sip of water after and swish it to rinse. I’ve also ordered straws so I can avoid contact completely without having to pull these things off my teeth every 5 minutes. See, I don’t just pour a soda and gulp it; I nurse it. My one glass usually lasts about 3 or 4 hours. Thus, taking my trays out every time I drink is NOT an option.
The eating is a different problem, though. I mean, it’s not like I sit and eat all day. But every once in a while I like to have a Mentos candy. Or a couple of M&Ms. (Seriously, just a couple.) These little sugar boosts get me through the day without a massive binge. But now I can’t, because I can’t eat with the trays in and I don’t want to go through the hassle of taking them out, snacking on five M&Ms, and then having to brush my teeth again before putting them back in.
Maybe I’ll lose the covid/Christmas weight, though. Bonus!
